Davien Kerr’s interception at Cal came because a teammate was late: ‘What do they call him, Wally Pipp?’

Berkeley, Calif. — Syracuse defensive back Davien Kerr had the first interception of his career against California on Saturday. He probably wouldn’t have been in the game if one of his teammates hadn’t been late to a meeting.
Kerr earned the chance to replace injured starter Jayden Bellamy on Saturday against the Golden Bears and the true freshman made one of the game’s biggest plays, going up and taking a 50-50 ball away from Cal’s 6-foot-2 Nyziah Hunter on a deep pass down the sideline.
